Junior classes are for children aged 5-9 years. Class structures follow a basic routine, which students will become familiar with. When children know what is expected of them, it reduces anxiety and frees them up to focus on learning new concepts, knowing that they are in a fun and safe environment. Recognition of learning comes in the form of gradings, where students are given the opportunity to perform their skills before a panel of judges. Successful gradings result in promotion to the next level.
Junior classes are designed to develop three main areas: traditional Gōjū Ryū techniques, physical and mental skills, and personal values. These three areas are important in early learning and assisting children to reach their full potential.
Traditional Gōjū Ryū techniques
These skills are learnt through static technique training, one-step sparring, partner drills and an introduction to kata. Kata is a set of choreographed movements, practised individually, which form part of all gradings in the senior system. Each kata focuses on different techniques and different ways of transitioning between each technique.
Physical and mental skills
Junior Classes aim to develop social skills, focus and listening skills, core strength, balance, fine and gross motor skills, coordination, fitness, safety, self-defence, awareness and self-control.
Nintai Karate promotes anti-bullying, self-confidence, honour, respect, and perseverance in all classes.
In addition to regular training, students also have the opportunity to take part in formal and informal tournaments, attend seminars as well as participate in our social days.
